**** FREE MOVIE ****

 

A wide variety of programs and activities are offered to senior citizens 50 years and older.  The monthly newsletter and calendar is available at the Senior Activities Center,  the Parks and Recreation office and the library. 

Senior Activities Center Membership

An annual membership fee is required for participation in most senior programs.  The cost is $10.00 per year for residents and $15.00 for non-residents.  The membership fee is paid at the Senior Activities Center office and a permanent membership card is issued.  Some additional per class fees are charged but many programs are included in the membership at no additional cost.

In addition to the activities listed on the Daily Activity Schedule, the Senior Activities Center offers daily card games (Pinochle and Euchre),  weekly card tournaments, computer classes, line dancing, pool, table tennis, local one-day trips and extended trips, speakers and health screenings, Reiki Massage, lending library,  and woodcarving, knitting and other crafts.


Activities Night
The Senior Activities Center is open Thursday evenings until 7:00 PM.  A variety of activities are available including table games, table tennis, pool, cards, weight training, and woodcarving.


Saturday Night Dancers
Come and enjoy live music and dancing at the Senior Activities Center every Saturday night - Resumes in September.  There is a $6.00 charge.  For more information, contact Lou Cartwright (586) 776-6768.


Senior "Cafe"

Grab a friend or make one's at the center Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM, at the Senior Activities Center, for adults 60 years of age and older.  Reservations are required by signing up ahead.   The month’s menu is posted at the Center and the entree is listed daily on the month’s activities calendar.  A stated donation is requested for the meal.

 

Van Service

The Senior Activities Center operates four wheelchair equipped vehicles for adult residents 60 and older and disabled residents.  The service is available Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  Call 586-498-2331, 24 hours in advance to schedule an appointment.  All vehicles offer curb-to-curb service to medical appointments, grocery shopping, volunteer jobs, banking, other shopping and miscellaneous destinations within the service area.


Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services
 
Deaf and Hearing Impaired Services, Inc. is an agency servicing this special older population.  They can be contacted by calling, 1-248-473-1888, (TDD) 1-248-473-1875.  Deaf seniors are welcome to socialize at the Senior Center at any time.  Closed caption film viewing is available.

Seniors looking for information or help with pension and Medicare questions and paperwork may call the Macomb Senior Citizen Services Department at 586-468-6313 or the Area Agency on Aging 1-B at 1-800-852-7795.


“Helping Hands”
Program
The
“Helping Hands” outreach for Seniors is a voluntary program servicing senior residents, who are aged 60 or older. Services include transportation, small home repairs, yard work and reassurance phone calls.  Volunteers can be of high school age and there is no upper age limit.  Volunteers can pass along their credit  to seniors or save their "credit" for a later date.   The program can supply information for paid services also.  To inquire about the service, volunteer opportunities, or to make a referral for service, contact the “Helping Hands” Outreach for Seniors Please Call 498-2339
